The 'Native Place' image of Oh Jang Hwan poetry had the meaning of the place in which the subject was formed, Whenever he reflected on modernity, the 'native place' image became the object of his attention. In this study, I tried to examine how the meaning of the 'native place' image of his poetry changed Especially, I intended to disclose the process of identification of the subject according to Lacan's theory.
In the poetry of the early period, the subject criticized the modem civilization and pursued 'the Imagery'. The subject refused to enter 'the symbolic' that had the negativity in the colonial modernity. Instead of it, he tried to recover identity through 'the duel relation' with mother, which was transformed into the image of native place.
After that, while he returned to his native place, he approved 'the symbolic' in which 'father' was represented The subject recognized the order of 'the symbolic' and criticized the world of reality. On the other hand, he intended to recover the identity through the desire of death. Thus, the image of the native place was changed into the concrete place or the place of death.
After Hae-Bang period, he pursued the universal goodness and the aspiration to future. The subject entered into 'the symbolic' according to new order. The meaning of the native place was changed into the place of labor or that of utopia Wherever he met a place which caused revolutional nostalgia, he could recollect the native place. The subject was transformed into that of community, who could recover the identity
