The purposes of this study were to review the child research articles in the Journal of Korean Home Management Association for 30 years and to suggest the new research direction in this area. 218 child research articles were analyzed by the themes, published years, subjects and methods. A framework to evaluate child studies was decided in accordance with objectives of the research.
Theoretical studies mean the research on child development, parent-child relations, development of measures and thoughts on children. On the other hand, practical themes were mental health, child education program, parent education program, child welfare and child policies.
The child studies increased in numbers of both theoretical and practical theme, especially since 1995 practical studies occupied about one tiers. Most subjects were children, adolescents and parents, however infants were ignored. As questionnaire were used mostly, the more attentions are needed for qualitative methods. Some suggestions for future studies on child studies were discussed.
