In previous studies, Oh Jung Hee's novels were perceived as criticizing patriarchal ideology through pathological maternity or grotesque femininity. Or in contrary her novels represented the cure and imagination of reproduction through positive maternity and femininity. However, this study emphasizes the performativity of women's language revealed in Oh Jung Hee's novel Knight Game. In Oh Jung Hee's novel women suffer from deep melancholia due to their inseparable detachment from their mother. Through such melancholic identification with their mother makes women an ambiguous and indefinite subject with 'double voicing'. Through women's language that is revealed in their melancholia the women in Oh Jung Hee's novel shows both the rejection and acceptance towards patriarchal ideology.
