This Study is to estimate the economic impacts of casino industry on the Korea economy, using an input-output model. The 404×404 national transactions tables were aggregated into 33×33 economic sectors where casino and tourism sectors were disaggregated. Casino multipliers were derived from the input-output model in terms of output, income, employment, value added, indirect tax, and import. Furthermore, rate of foreign exchange earning and forward and backward linkage effects were also derived for the casino industry.
The result of the study indicate that casino multipliers of incomes, employment, value added, and tax were higher than other industrial sectors. Rate of foreign exchange earnings for the casino industry was also found to higher than other industrial sectors. The input-output analysis indicates that in 2008 the casino receipts generated output impact of 2,983.8 billion, value-added impact of 1,689.3 billion, income impact of 489.8 billion, employment impact of 19,953 full-time equivalent jobs, tax impact of 499 billion, and import impact of 129.5 billion.
