This study is to find out the effect of leisure activities on anxiety and depression of the elderly and to suggest practical implication. The participants of this study were 303 elderly, who are over 65 years old and reside in community. The results of this study are as follows. First, the social-economic factors of the elderly didn’t have any effect on their anxiety. However, the educational status and spouse of the elderly had significant effect on their depression. Second, the leisure activities had significant effect on both anxiety and depression of the elderly. The more leisure activities they do, their anxiety and depression were decreased. Third, reference to the types of the leisure activities, both physical activities and sports had a significant impact on anxiety and depression of the elderly. The recreational activities only impact significantly on depression. Based on these findings, practical strategies to reduce anxiety and depression of the elderly, which are the general mental health problems were suggested.
