Devised to meet the comfort of the residential space as well as energy savings using radiation and convection cooling effects, chilled beam systems were developed to increase the cooling effects of ceiling radiant panel systems. As a new conceptual air conditioning system to minimize the draft by the movement of turbulent airflow, this system facilitates the installation in the ceilings of the existing buildings due to the low installation height and has its advantage of higher heat exchange effects, low noise and reduction in plumbing installation area. To develop the chilled beam system in Korea, this study attempted to deduce the structure of systems with optimal performance through analysis on the induction structures and conducted an experiment on the induction ratio performance of mock-up manufactured by utilizing the findings. Based on the data obtained from the induction ratio performance experiment and numerical analysis, a research for the performance improvement of chilled beam systems was carried out.
