Honeybee is the most important pollinator in apple in Korea. Wide range of pesticides are being utilized by the apple growers against pests and diseases, and these are threatening the pollinator populations. Questionnaires was prepared to compare the perceptions on the honeybee damage by the pesticides between beekeepers and apple growers. 72% of beekeepers experienced the honeybee damage by the pesticide and the trend is increasing. In a year, most damage occurred between April and June when the fruit trees are blooming. Among the respondents, 56% of the apple growers also understood the toxic effects of chemical pesticides as well as the flower thinner, carbaryl. Beekeepers argued that collaborative network for advance notice of pesticide spray by the growers could alleviate the honeybee damage from the pesticide application, but apple growers answered that non of them have noticed the pesticide application to the nearby apiary owner. Information dissemination regarding pesticide effect on honeybee damage and importance of the pollinators are demanded. Also regional grower-beekeeper network for pollinator protection should be initiated.
