With the arrival of the aging society and the improvement in the quality of life, there has been an increasing interest in the welfare and healthcare; the term “well-being” which emerged in the beginning of 2000 is maintaining as a long-term trend. The proportion of the aging population in Korea of over 65 years is expected to reach 14% by 2018 and reach the aging society. By 2025, the proportion is expected to reach 20% to become a super-aging society. According to the ‘Population and Housing Census’ conducted by the Korea National Statistical Office, Korea has the greatest speed of population aging in the world and is expected to contribute further to the increase in demand for elderly healthcare. This is because the aging population occupies the largest proportion of the demand for medical care. With the global economic recession and an increasing demand for improvement in the quality of life after retirement, the welfare concept is more widely known and the concept of “well-being” is increasingly receiving attention. This phenomenon affects the healthcare tremendously. From the prevention to life management, the healthcare recipient focused hospitals are now making more space for the hospital to be more like home. Likewise, the healthcare industry is expanding its recipients to not only patients, but also the unhealthy people. This study aims to widely make known the seriousness of the arrival of the aging society and to grasp the main topics of the physical education and healthcare design interdisciplinary fusion research. This study take an interdisciplinary convergent research perspective to discuss managing the happiness of the citizens in an aging society and the quality of life in a ˝well-being˝ society. The paper is divided as follows: First, we use Japan′s case to compare the international and national trend as well as discuss the problems of chronic diseases, dementia, and the current situation of the aging Korean society through data. Also, we examine each of the interdisciplinary works and propose a design and physical education convergent approach. We discuss the future of the healthcare business, the meaning of the U-healthcare concept and its relations to the other disciplinary fields, especially the interdisciplinary approach including physical education. Using these details as a base, we propose field-friendly service of the elderly or a follow-up research of vitalizing method of customized smart health programs.
