The goal of this study is to explain relationship with God through theological and psychological approaches. Theologically speaking, a relationship with God can be explained as a critical element of Christian spirituality. From a Christian perspective, humans created in God`s image are capable of establishing and maintaining a relationship with God. In this sense, spiritual growth of maturity means developing one`s relationship with God. In addition, the origin and nature of the relationship can be explained and understood through a psychological approach. Both attachment and object relations theories, which focus on the relational aspect of human development, can be used to explain how one`s relationship with others and God is formed and developed. As both theories emphasize, one`s relationships, which are learned in childhood through early parental interactions, are a predictor of one`s relationship with others and God in adulthood. Christian educators can use these insights to help Christian parents understand the nature of the relationship and its importance in their children`s spiritual formation.
