Back, namwoon(白南雲) and Kim, taejoon(金台俊) researched based on Marxism. Back, namwoon did a fine job in historical studies. Kim, taejoon also leaved remarkable achievement in Korean literature. Back studied history focused on the communities, society and nation, related with modernization. Back thought the community like general public or Chosun people had to be the principal agent of modernization. Especially he tried to explain special characteristics of Korea contrast with world history.
Eventually Back insisted that constructing new democracy alliance for national and social liberation was the important political duty to Chosun people after 1945. On the other hand Kim, taejoon"s awareness of modernization is not clearer than Back"s. He criticized the thinking that Chinese classics based on China had worth. He took note of the cultures related with the novels which were written in times of King Young-jo(英祖) and Jeong-jo(正祖). He specially focused on Chunhyangjeon(春香傳). He thought Chunhyangjeon showed ruining feudal society and victory of new class. Both Back and Kim were interested in Jung, yarkyoung(丁若鏞) who studied practical matters in Joseon Dynasty because they thought Jung, yarkyoung was a representative man in the period of beginning modern society.
