This research is based on the literature reviews of 32 studies on physical activity programs for elderly fall prevention developed in Korea for the last five years. Identified in this research are the elderly`s physical features, their exercise periods, workout schedules, exercise effects, and the outcome variables as measurement of the effects. The analysis results are as follows. First, in the vast majority of the literature, fall prevention programs were performed on the elderly women aged from their mid-60s to mid-70s. Second, for most programs, the exercise periods ranges from eight or nine to twelve weeks. Three times a week was found to be the most common exercise frequency, and sixty minutes each time to be the most common exercise time. Third, the programs consist of, in the order named, resistive exercises, gymnastics(aerobics, dance, etc), walking exercises, and balance workouts. Fourth, strength of lower extremity and balance are by far the most commonly measured outcome variables, and it was found that they help the elderly avoid falls. In conclusion, it is found that the exercise routine of three times a week for sixty minutes for more than ten weeks will be the appropriate workout plan for fall prevention. In addition, the programs should be focused on improving the strength of lower extremity and balance because the two physical fitness factors have the biggest influence on falls. To enhance the lower extremity, additional strength should be loaded on it, for example with elastic exercise bands. Yet, there is a room for further studies to develop this research issue. Future research is needed on the fall prevention of elderly men, unhealthy elderly, and simulation of fall prevention programs to be applied to reality, which is yet developed.
