The purpose of this study is to create a native app using web app and PhoneGap that allows web developers to take a web app and package it as a native app for Android, iPhone and others. PhoneGap makes it possible to add a single snippet of Java-Script to web apps, providing access to the hardware (speakers, accelerometer, camera, etc) and allowing the app to be submittable to the respective app store for the platforms although written with HTML, CSS, and Java-Script. To experiment, we build a simple calorie-tracking, native-looking web app called kilo that allows the user to add and delete food entries for a given date and then, convert it to a native app using PhoneGap. The whole converting process requires us to perform complex preparatory steps such as installing the necessary software packages and setting up the environment for testing on an emulator. Therefore, this study attempts to address these challenging procedures for future mobile app development.
