기술, 문화, 감성의 융합시대인 21세기의 문화산업은 디자인 영역을 중심으로 국가경쟁력과 정체성을 확립하는 필수 요소이다. 전 세계적으로 주거환경디자인에 있어 북유럽이 강세를 보이는 반면, 동양 문화권에 대한 오리엔탈리즘도 유행하고 있지만 한국적 디자인의 정체성 확립 및 다양한 상품개발까지 미치지 못하는 실정이다. 이에 한국의 정체성에 대한 차별성이 뛰어난 디자인 진흥 정책이 요구되고 있다. 이에 따라 한국적 디자인이 이슈화가 되면서 전통디자인의 원형을 단순히 응용하고 가공한 디자인이 쏟아져 나오고 있다. 그러나 한국적이라는 개념은 전통형식의 모방 및 재현이 아닌 근원적인 한국정서를 드러낼 수 있어야 하는 것으로써 1차적 형상의 계승이 아닌 정신을 현대화함에 의의가 있다. 한국적 디자인은 생활 양식, 문화의 계승 및 현대적 재해석을 통한 실천화에 따른 방식으로 구현할 수 있는 것이다. 따라서 본 연구는 전통의 주생활과 식생활 전반에 걸쳐 가장 오랜 시간 전해지고 있는 전통 대표 가구인 소반을 고찰하여 전통의 미를 유형화 하고, 현대 주거생활문화의 특성과 니즈를 이해함으로써 전통과 현대문화의 융합적 디자인을 꾀하였다. 또한 동양사상 중 전통 창조 원리인 천지인 사상을 재해석하여 테이블디자인에 접목하였으며 이를 통해 정서와 문화가 어우러진 한국적 디자인을 제안하고자 하였다. 그 결과 본 연구는 현대 주거문화의 좌식과 입식생활의 혼재를 거스르지 않는 범위 내에서 적절한 해결책으로서 문화적 통찰과 전통의 재해석을 통해 한국적 디자인을 제안할 수 있었다. 소반 뿐 아니라 전통 문화의 요소를 적극적으로 연구하여 현재 및 미래의 트렌드와 결합한다면 우리의 정체성과 미감을 원동력으로 하는 세계적 디자인의 창조가 가능하며, 이는 국가 이미지 제고에 도움을 줄 뿐만 아니라 디자인 문화산업영역에서 위상을 드러낼 것으로 예측된다.

The culture industry of the twentieth century, which is the age of the integration of technology, culture, and sensibility, is an essential element that establishes competitiveness and identity of the nation focusing on the design field. While Northern Europe is dominating in the living environment design field all over the world, though the Orientalism from the Asian cultural area is on trend, the Korean design has not yet reached the level of establishing its identity or of developing various products. Hence, the design promotion policy with superior differentiation on the Korean design has been required; so as the Korean design has come into the fore, simple applications and manufactures of the original traditional design are pouring out now. The notion of the Korean style, however, is aimed to reveal the original Korean sensibility, not simply to imitate or realize the traditional form; its significance lies in the modernization of the spirit, not the inheritance of the primary form. Also, perspective and identity of the Korean design can be obtained from collision or integration of the traditional beauty and the modern culture. In that way, the Korean design can be realized in a way of practicing through living style, cultural inheritance, and modern reinterpretation. This study thus, by considering the traditional representative furniture Soban which has been succeed from generation to generation all over the traditional living and eating lives, formalized the traditional beauty, understood the characteristics and needs of the living life culture, and pursued an integrated design of the traditional and the modern cultures. Also, this research reinterpreted one of the Asian philosophies, the traditional creation principle, the ‘Heaven-Earth-Human’ philosophy and grafted it onto the table design, and through these, intended to suggest a Korean design, accompanied with sensibility and culture. As a result, this study could suggest a Korean design through the cultural discernment and reinterpretation as appropriate solutions within the boundary that does not counter with the coexistence of the sedentary and standing style of modern living culture. If not only the Soban but also the elements of the traditional culture are studied and combined with the present and future trends, it is possible to create a world-class design driven by our identity and sense of beauty; and it is expected that this will not only help the image making of the nation but also reveal our status in the design culture industry field.
