Globally, circumstances surrounding multiculturalism are being unfavourable. However, even in this situation, no one does not conclude that we should return to the mono-culture. Instead, discourses and representations as the critical multiculturalism, cultural pluralism etc. which could dilute so-called “~ism”, are preferred. In spite of the crisis of multiculturalism, the obvious fact is that multicultural society is not a problem to be overcome. Rather, it is the inevitable matter, which goes through the past, present and future of human society. Therefore, rather than merely expressing perspectives about multiculturalism which very based on political and religious views, we need discussions that can contribute to the formation of a community and solve the problems. This is because albeit the multiculturalism, it is inevitable for there to be many problems when heterogeneous groups which a wide range of different traditions and cultural backgrounds come to live together. It many be a matter of the seriousness of the problems. However, despite of all those differences and the concerns, the fact that people in a multicultural society “generally” or “externally” maintain harmonious social relationships cannot be denied. Based on this, we can observe that members of the community comply with the basic rules for the maintenance of the community. Therefore, successful settlement in the multicultural society will depend on whether it is possible to propose a code of conduct which are based on clear basic rules. Of course, nowadays, any type of theoretical attempts to present the universal ethical foundation is not a popular subject. However, if we cannot even secure social contracts for the life of community, we may face a serious crisis in the future which unfold further change.
This article raises the need of ‘multicultural world of life(Lebenswelt)’, to encompass not only the ‘crisis’ and ‘problems’ which are the main discourses of multiculture, but also the ‘opportunities’ and ’benefits’, so presenting the need of ‘new multicultural common sense’, even trying to propose arts and basic direction for a life of multicultural society. I believe this attempt to be an opportunity the wasteful feast of discourse of multicultural discussion converted into ‘the agora’ discussing the new formation of active and positive culture.
