In this study, in order to investigate the effective using method of the insolubilizer having amino aldehyde or metallic salt on the single coating system, a number of the coating colors with different pH condition was prepared and the coated papers having various coating structure were manufactured by the coating colors. Apparent viscosity and water retention value of the coating colors were tested. Physical and optical properties, printabilities of the coated papers were evaluated It was found out that although the two insolubilizers showed similar results in the optical and surface properties of the coated paper, they could be showed different results in the printabilities of the coated paper. It seemed that the insolubilizers had different reacting mechanism among the coating components such as pigment, SB-latex biner, and additives on the different pH condition, when the consolidation process of the coating color was proceeded. Amino-aldehyde type insolubilizer showed good result in the wet-pick strength of the coated paper when it was applied the color with pH ranged from 10.08 to 10.5. Metallic salts type insolubilizer showed best result in the dry-pick strength of coated paper when it was added on coating formulation with pH 10.08 and also showed best result in the print mottle test of coated paper when it was added on coating formulation with pH 9.1.
