The purpose of this study is to identify the social control and power relations that act on the body of women in commercial sex through the practice of dieting and to provide a new point of discussion on the discursive terrain surrounding commercial sex that has been reduced to individual problems under the dichotomy of enforced and voluntary. In modern society, the body functions especially to women as a symbol of ‘existence’ and ‘capital’ which represents social competitiveness. On the other hand, for women in commercial sex industry, the body is literally a ‘means of production’ and a ‘product’ itself. Under cultural imperialism, the experience of diets of women in commercial sex is an extension of women’s experiences. However, at the same time-` it is a specific experience in which the body as a ‘means of production’ and ‘product.’ Within the commercial sex industry, the ‘slender body’ is often directly linked to the woman’s income or employment. The exhibition of the body of women in commercial sex gives the specific status to the diet (‘slender body’) differentiates itself from other management of appearance. The body of women in commercial sex in the process of commodification of the body is a sexual object which is subject to evaluation while it is segmented. And, both the body and the service are perceived to be business factors within the commercial sex industry, but their status in the industry is quite different. It is also a condition of self-perception as a ‘product.’ As a result, sometimes experience of weight loss due to harsh working conditions or illness has been reinterpreted as an experience of strengthening ‘merchantability’ and ‘competitiveness.’ Conversely, the weight gain causes a crack in self-perception as a ‘product,’ and sometimes acts as a factor or means of leaving the industry.
