This study explores directions for revising the standard curriculum of the University-level Program (UP) English course, with an aim to improve the curriculum as to reflect the recent social and educational innovations of emphasizing competences. The UP is a bridge program between high school and college, providing high school students with chances to tackle college-level work and earn college credit when admitted to a college participating in UP. The UP standard curriculum of English was developed as English Composition course, focusing on analytical and critical writing skills. The present study made suggestions for the revision of standard curriculum of UP English , based on the analyses of the new English national curriculum, and the curriculum of Group 2 ‘Language Acquisition’ courses from International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program (DP). The suggestions included changing the linking high English course, which becomes the foundation of UP English standard curriculum, from ‘Advanced English Reading and Writing’, a high-level course offered in the 2007 national curriculum framework, to ‘Advanced EnglishⅡ’, a high level course that emphasizes all 4 skills of language, offered in the 2015 framework. The addition of competence section to the Achievement Standards of the UP English course curriculum was also suggested for the revision.
