This study forecasts changes in border area’s spatial configuration and analyzes spatial impact of road network between the north and the south on a border area when the Mt. Geumgang tour resumes. To carry out the study, we selected Goseong-gun in Gangwon province as a study site. The results of a space syntax analysis showed that the integration of the north Goseong-gun is lower than the south Goseong-gun’s. Next, the integration was high in both Mt. Geumgang’s tourist district and around the Ganseong-eup before constructing road network between the north and the south, while it appeared to be high around the demilitarized zone(DMZ) after the road network was constructed. As it is expected to increase in traffic around the DMZ after road construction, practitioners need to consider overall road management including road capacity. In terms of centrality, the area near DMZ has a high centrality which refers to a great spatial impact of road network between the north and the south in area near DMZ. The findings have important implications for identifying key areas with high centrality by quantitatively understanding spatial configuration of Goseong-gun which is closely related to the Mt. Geumgang tour.
