This article is a study of politics of reunification and Korean churches for Korean reunification. The purpose of this paper is to examine two positions on the reunification (the government and the church). I will deal with theological grounds and ethical reasons to pursue reunification in Korea. It is about reunification in order to articulate the notion of reunification. In doing so, tongil means becoming one community that embraces all differences, without divisions. In the case of the divided Korea, one community consists in unity that respects diversity and results in minjok – one people. The community emerges from relationships of mutual respect. In the end, the rich understandings that emerge from the theo-ethical dialogue among the politics of reunification and Korean churches in the Korean history I work with will contribute, I believe, to a definition of reunification that is not limited to political reunification, but aims to protect the dignity of every person and to contribute to the full participation of all Koreans in one just community.
