Recently, Consumers" demands for handling and ride comfort are increasing, but handling and rride comfort are performance factors that have opposite characteristics. To meet the needs of these consumers, carmakers are actively developing active suspension technology to satisfy two different performance features at the same time. The active suspension system consists mainly of elements such as K&C performance, spring, stabilizer bar and damper, and is being commercialized and developed as a system that allows the overall roll control of the vehicle to enhance handling and ride comfort performance. These systems, however, must be equipped with hydraulic pressure or motors, and are designed to regulate the overall roll stiffness of the vehicle through a separate controller. so they are mainly installed in high-end vehicles due to their complex structure and high price.
In this paper, It is purposed a semi-active stabilizer bar model with nonlinear stiffness. This made it possible to improve not only the handling stability but also the ride comfort through nonlinear stiffness curves. It was intended to predict the dynamic performance of a semi-active stabilizer bar through the dynamic analysis. The handling stability was evaluated through J-turn and Double lane change, and the ride comfort was evaluated using ISO8608 road surface provided by ADAMS.
