The purpose of this study is to examine how well the organic view of the world is revealed in Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring (1962). In the relationship between nature and humans, the traditional Christian view of nature in the West regarded human beings as the warrant of all things and the power to develop and exploit nature. However, Carson claims that the organic view of the world, that is, human beings are part of nature, as well as creatures and inanimate objects, and that all organisms are not individual, but are closely connected to each other. In the 1950s, American society had no interest in environmental issues and was indiscriminately using pesticides such as DDT, dieldrin, chlordine, and heptachlor without knowing the dangers of chemicals. However, Carson said through a demonstration that human damage to nature was returned to humans in the circular structure of the organic ecosystem through indirect poisoning of animals and livestock, including aquatic organisms, soil-based organisms, and birds.
