Young adults are an important age group both in secular and Christian realms. However, they are leaving the Christian faith because they feel the way the church teaches is becoming irrelevant to them. The church needs to reconsider the ways to disciple young adults for spiritual formation. Transformative learning is an educational approach with the elements that can benefit young adults" spiritual formation. Young adults" developmental and socio-cultural characteristics reveal that they need a free, experiential, holistic, authentic relationship-based, mentor-guiding, context-relevant approach in their spiritual formation. Such strategic principles are the key features of transformative learning theory and closely related elements to Christian spiritual formation. Despite its progressive assumptions, a careful examination through biblical theology revealed that it has space for integration. Transformative learning offers practices that can create learning opportunities beneficial to young adults" spiritual formation: Experiential learning, Christian dialogues, relationship building program, holistic curriculum, and leadership invitation.
