(연구배경 및 목적) 2014년부터 현재까지 서울특별시 교육청인 관이 주도하는 우리학교 화장실 꾸미기 사업이 2014년부터 시행되어 현재에 이르고 있으며, 사업의 성과가 매우 높은 결과가 제시되고 있다. 또한 화장실 디자인 사업은 디자인 전문가 선정 및 실내건축설계, 사용자 참여디자인 과정인 워크샵을 통하여 실질적인 화장실 디자인을 적용하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 사용자 참여 화장실 디자인 프로세스 진행과정과 이를 바탕으로 실현된 화장실 디자인 결과를 분석함으로서 초등학교 화장실이 환경적으로 친숙하고 친밀한 공간으로 인식되고 지속성 있는 장소로서의 역할을 할 수 있는 방안으로 제시하려 한다. (연구방법) 디자인 연구 과정에 있어서 학교의 직접적인 사용자라 할 수 있는 학생, 선생님, 학교 관계자와의 설문조사를 통하여 디자인 의견을 반영하는 참여방식으로 진행되었으며, 내용에 있어서는 워크샵에 의한 결과를 반영하여 화장실 디자인을 연구하였다. 연구 기간은 2018년 3월 25일부터 4월 3일까지 현장에 대한 답사를 통한 문제점과 내용을 파악하고 , 4월 24일 부터 5월 11일까지 사용자 워크샵을 5회 실시하여 워크샵을 통하여 수렴된 자료를 분석 및 종합하고 화장실 디자인에 적용하였다. (결과) 화장실에 대한 접근성을 위하여 시각적 인지성을 높이기 위한 색채를 적용하였으며, 사용자인 초등학생용인 세면대 및 소변기, 양변기 등 기타 물품에 규격을 적용하여 시공하였다. 특히 안정성을 고려하여 바닥의 미끄럼 방지와 배수에 문제가 없는 타일을 선정하였으며, 전체적인 화장실 이용 조닝은 사용상 편의성을 고려하여 출입구에서 진입 시 일면 큐비클 칸막이의 대변 영역과 맞은편의 소변 영역을 적용하였으며, 입구에 세면대 및 거울을 적용 공간과 분리하여 편리성을 극대화 하였다. (결론) 초등학교 화장실 공간은 아동 및 어린이들이 사용하는 환경적, 물리적으로 중요한 공간이며, 신체적 발달과 함께 행태를 고려하여야 하고 심리적으로 안정되고 정서적으로 편안함을 전달하는 것이 중요하다. 이러한 상황에서 환경적으로 필요한 물리적 상황을 조성하므로 정신적, 신체적 발달에 긍정적인 영향을 주어야 한다. 이와 같은 화장실 디자인 과정에 대한 결과를 통하여 초등학교 화장실 디자인 과정에 있어 사전 설문연구와 참여 워크샵 과정이 디자인에 매우 긍정적인 영향을 미치며 좋은 디자인 결과물을 제시한다는 사실을 인지할 수 있고, 향후 지속적으로 참여방식의 화장실 디자인 연구가 지속되어야 한다.

(Background and Purpose) From 2014 to the present, the toilet decorating project of our school led by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has been implemented since 2014, and the results of the project are very high. In addition, the toilet design business is applying practical toilet design through design specialist selection, interior architectural design, and workshop which is user participation design process. The purpose of this study is to analyze the progress of the user-participating toilet design process and the results of the toilet design realized based on it as a way for elementary school toilets to be perceived as environmentally friendly and intimate spaces and serve as sustainable places. (method) In the design research process, the study conducted a survey with students, teachers, and school officials who can be the direct users of the school to reflect the design opinions. In the contents, the study examined the toilet design by reflecting the results of the workshop.The research period was from March 25, 2018 to April 3, 2018, and the problems and contents of the field were identified. From April 24 to May 11, the user workshop was conducted five times, and the collected data were analyzed and synthesized through the workshop and applied to the toilet design. (Result) To improve the visual awareness, colors were applied to improve the accessibility to the toilet, and the standard was applied to other items such as washstands, urinals, and toilet bowls for elementary school students.In particular, considering the stability, tiles that do not have any problems in slip prevention and drainage of the floor were selected. The overall toilet use zoning was applied to the feces area of ??one cubicle partition and the urine area opposite to the entrance when entering the entrance, considering the convenience of use. (Conclusion) The bathroom space of elementary school is an important environmental and physical space used by children and children. It is important to consider the behavior together with physical development and to convey psychologically stable and emotional comfort. In this situation, it is necessary to create a physical situation that is environmentally necessary, so it should have a positive impact on mental and physical development.Through the results of the toilet design process, it is possible to recognize that the preliminary survey and the participation workshop process have a very positive effect on the design and present good design results in the toilet design process of elementary school, and the study of the toilet design in the way of participation should continue in the future.
