The research question of this paper is how to apply the fourth-generation warfare theory to the Korean peninsula. To this end, based on the 4th generation warfare theory, the paper analyzed the characteristics of the 4th generation warfare and the difference between the previous generations warfare, and judged the future warfare patterns to present the ROK military's countermeasures against the North Korean threat on the Korean Peninsula in the future. The characteristics of the 4th generation war were presented a difference between the previous generation and the 4th generation warfare, and the characteristics of the 4th generation warfare were examined in terms of Clausewitz's Trinitarianism. The nature of the fourth generation warfare is inferred in four ways: political means between state versus non-state actors, applying asymmetry of the means and methods of warfare, pursuing long-term wars and areas of uncertainty. It was presented in four categories: increasing asymmetric warfare focusing on non-military means, proxy warfare by individuals and small groups, psychological warfare of non-military nature, and network development. This paper is meaningful in that it provides flexibility for current and future warfare by presenting countermeasures for the Korean military in preparation for the 4th generation warfare on the Korean Peninsula through analyzing patterns of the 4th generation warfare based on the nature of the war. The pattern of the fourth-generation warfare on the Korean Peninsula was projected only when North Korea turned to defensive after an offensive by armed provocation. The ROK military's countermeasures against this were presented in학술논문134 군사연구 제151집seven ways: conducting a short-term war to weaken the political will of North Korea early, gaining public sentiment from North Koreans, making efforts to stabilize the North Korean region early, using the coalition force efficiently, building a large number of small units, applying the concept of swarming, blocking networks between non-state actors, and strengthening cultural and religious understanding, and regional cooperation
