The purpose of this research is to find how to evaluate the qualitative aspects of sustainable architecture and to effect on the built projects. Sustainable architecture emphasizes the holistic and integrative approach for social, economic, and ecological value, and needs to evaluate the qualitative as well as the quantitative aspects. However, most contemporary sustainable buildings are evaluated mainly quantitatively based on their performance. In other words, qualitative aspects such as aesthetic, well, equity, which is hard to measure with evidence are being neglected. Thus it analyzes evaluation criteria of the LBC(Living Building Challenge), which is known as one of the most rigorous and holistic sustainable building certification programs, and the COTE Top Ten Award by the Committee on the Environment(COTE) of AIA(American Institute of Architects), which highlights ten innovative projects for their integration of design excellence with environmental performance every year. By analyzing their evaluation criteria, Biophilic are extracted as one of major keywords. For further analysis in aspects of biolphilic, three projects are selected, which got the LBC certificate and COTE TOP Ten Award most recently. In conclusion. We understood how biophilic’s characteristic values were revealed in green architecture. And based on studies. we were able to examine the design trend about green architecture in the United States.
