Hydrokinetic energy technology has the potential to produce continuous and stable electricity from free streams. In the last several decades, there has been a significant increase in interest in the development of this technology. Savonius turbines are widely used in extracting power from wind energy due to its low cost and quite operation. However, recent studies show a few applications of Savonius type turbines in hydrokinetic applications due to its simple structure and low manufacturing cost. The goal of this study is to design a hydrokinetic turbine that can effectively utilize lost hydraulic energy in industrial waterways and irrigation canals.
