In Korea, small vessels under 5 tons account for 80% of the total vessels. Accordingly, casualties and marine accidents of small ships are also increasing. Among marine accidents, fishing vessels account for 66% of all accidents, and the proportion of the relevant accidents involving small ships less than 10 tons is the largest. An aging population of fishermen is also a problem. Currently, the average age of fishermen is 64.4 years. In addition, the number of vessels operated by one person is increasing, and safety accidents related to this are continuously rising. Korea is building the General Information Center On Maritime Safety and Security. However, in terms of small ships, they are reluctant to expose the ship"s route and fishing area, so they turn off the power of the Automatic Identification System in many cases. For this reason, there is an increasing need to establish an effective safety management system for small fishing vessels vulnerable to safety management without completely exposing the ship"s route and fishing or fishing place.
Therefore, this study intends to implement a small ship safety management system using an edge computer. An IoT device that measures and transmits data was implemented using various sensors, and the sensing data collected from the IoT device and a smartwatch was transmitted to the edge computer mounted in the ship"s control room. It was implemented to analyze and judge the risk based on the sensor data in the edge computer. At this time, according to the dangerous state, the signal is transmitted to the surrounding ships, the control system, and in more urgent cases, the Korea Coast Guard, so that the emergency situation can be dealt with more quickly. In addition, the UI/UX of the software for monitoring the status of ships and crews is designed to display the necessary information in a simple and large size, considering that the age of actual users is the elderly.
