This study aims to collect and arrange the data of costume-related mentioned in YeonHangRok(books of travel to Ching)and HaehaengRok which is the Envoy’s Documents in the Joseon Dynasty era, and based on that data, to study what Korean has awareness of identity about costume culture.
For this study, it compared recognition of Korean about costume of china and costume of Japan, and investigated identity of Korean on costume culture; the result is as follows;
First, Koreans thought that has to imitate costume of china as a system of the Ming-dynasty specially, rejected costume of Ching dynasty at the first when it came to Korea, but accepted it gradually as costume which has high and low and grade, realized it as reasonable fashion to use appropriate button, shoes and a new loom for pursuing convenient.
Second, Korean thought that there was no costume system in Japan at the first; it was origin from Korea someday. They recognized strangely that traditional costume of Japan which has an official hat, long pants and shoes,
Third, they have kept development of succession a mourning dress being heir to The Chu-Tzu Ceremonial Occasions (朱子家禮) in this comparison, and they thought that women’s sewing skills is the best to be appreciated by China and had pride and self-esteem of Korean costume, meanwhile, met new civilization, and recognized newly practicality and rationality as a main factorto form costume culture what presents in costume.
