A good many relics had been poured into Korea since the nation had opened it’s seaports at the early 20th century, which made the traditional status order change slowly, inaddition, Emperor Gaozong enacted the new policy of written words, all which caused the status of Chinese langauge to begin to decline in Koren, therefore, the situation of Korean using Chinese language was much worse than before, promoting the need to compilate the dictionary for the most changeful era. Meanwhile, Xuan Gonglian, apioneer who spread new knowledge, found that all kinds of dictionaries used widely at that time did not accommodate Korean everyday use, so he organized to compilate New Chapter of Jade for Chinese-Korean Dictionary(NCJCKD or Chinese- Korean Xin Yu Pian Dictionary ) in 1913. The research object of this paper is New Chapter of Jade for Chinese-Korean Dictionary published from Huidong Publishers in 1918. New Chapter of Jade for Chinese-Korean Dictionary had been composed of Preface, Contents, First part of NCJCKD, Second part of NCJCKD, Contents of radicals in Chinese characters, Radicals in Chinese characters and etc. The preface wrote the purpose for compilation; the contents did not list alone, some were placed in the whole volume; To convient check, the dictionary specially created the parts of pronunciation which according to the phonetic order of Korean language and the number of strokes of Chinese characters. The total number of Chinese characters is 16,725 in the dictionary, which had been divided into 7,188 in the first part and 9,547 in the second. The stylistic rules of the dictionary was the same with the dictionary of Jade Chapter for Whole Rhyme(Quanyun Yupian), but the order of Chinese characters refered to Emperor Kangxi’s Dictionary(Kangxi Zidian). The peculiarities and value of New Chapter of Jade for Chinese-Korean Dictionary are as follows: Firstly, the dictionary contained 16,735 Chinese characters totally, the scale of which was larger than ever before, and the term of meaning for each character had it’s Korean translation; Secondly, this dictionary put the meaning of words before their pronunciation which was different from those dictionaries which always put the pronunciation before the meaning of words; Thirdly, this dictionary created the part of rule for finding characters according to radicals in Chinese characters, in addition, the dictionary also broke the limitations to the traditional compilation of dictionary, creating the part of pronunciation for finding characters which was a renovation at that time in order to help the readers check the words according to the order of Korean pronunciation, all was of great significance. Fourthly, this dictionary had also compilated many new characters which were created originally by Korea and included those characters which were universally used both in China and Japan, therefore, it was a dictionary that accommodated the changeful era. All in all, the efforts that the dictionary did for the system of standardization about acoustic exegetics superior to any dictionaries compliated during the late Enlightment period, and which also translated all terms of meaning for each character into Chinese, therefore, it was also a brand-new dictionary with it’s stylistic rules. In other words, the dictionary, as an original one in the Korean history, held an irreplaceable position in Korean dictionary compilation history.
