This study has purpose on analyzing the problems of kitchen where the elderly use by ergonomic work evaluation methods, and making a suggestions on planning and remodeling of the kitchen. Work evaluation method which is used in this study is direct-observing method, which contains the process of visiting the four different houses, which elderly people live in, 2 to 3 times each. For direct-observing method, analyzing method by movement observation and observation method with photo and video are fulfilled. Characteristics of the elderly people themselves and their kitchens were examined by static measurement and interview, and the pictures and videos, which recorded the process of preparing meals of the elderly, were analyzed repeatedly. As a result, physical characteristics of the elderly was to be the most important considerations; the elder with the problem of the knee joint limped on the kitchen entrance due to the floor level difference, and the elder with bent back worked on the floor or used elbow on the worktable to support the body were monitored. The study listed the common problems of the observed kitchens, and made suggestions to be considered to design the kitchen used by elderly people.
