In the 1970s, the U.S. Army succeeded in military innovation by establishing a new concept of ALB and proved the result of the innovation through Gulf War. At that time, Korean Army applied U.S. Army"s ALB to suit the Korean situation, and ALB was established as the basic concept of the Korean Army. U.S. has recently pushed for efforts to develop new concepts to cope with competition between major powers due to China"s rise and Russia"s threat, and U.S. Army"s MDO is one of the products of this effort. The purpose of this paper is to examine the feasibility and direction of application of the Korean Army to U.S. Army"s MDO. As a result, the paper raises four questions as an extension of Korean Army"s application of ALB. First, why and how did Korean Army apply the U.S. Army"s ALB in the 1980s? Second, what is the difference between U.S. Army"s MDO and ALB? Third, should the Korean Army apply U.S. Army"s MDO? Fourth, if U.S. Army had to apply MDO, how would it apply? Therefore, the composition of the paper examines the lessons learned from the past experiences of Korean Army in Chapter 2 and evaluates the implications of Korean Army in comparing U.S. Army"s MDO to Korean Army in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 reviews the feasibility and direction of Korean Army"s application of MDO based on five justifiable arguments for Korean military innovation and six basic principles of military innovation.
