The purpose of this study is to investigate depression and countermeasures related to students with dance majors during the COVID-19 pandemic. An online survey was conducted on 261 dance majors across the country. The questions asked were to check whether 1) depression differed according to the type of the dance major group, and 2) whether depression coping methods differed according to the type of the dancers. Through the SPSS program and AMOS statistical analysis program, factor analysis, correlation analysis, discriminant validity verification, difference analysis, and T test were conducted. As a result, differences in physiological depression and psychological depression according to employment types during the second phase of the COVID-19 pandemic were found. In addition, differences in depression coping methods according to employment types during the first phase of COVID-19 pandemic were found, and differences in depression coping methods according to employment types and genders during the third phase of COVID-19 pandemic were found.
In conclusion, most of the dance majors reported no significant depression during the COVID-19 pandemic, and efforts to cope with depression were also insufficient. In a follow-up study, it is necessary to perform a qualitative study that selects the group with a particularly high level of depression in this study and study their specificity, and an in-depth analysis is recommended to define the general low level of depression among dance majors.
