This study aimed to show the current costume-related research trends and the development of the Hanbok education system from 2016 to 2021 and suggest ways to improve the Hanbok education system further in Korea. As for the research trends, 50-60 master"s degree papers, 10-20 doctoral papers, and 100-120 academic journal articles have been published every year over the past six years. The classification of subjects of doctoral theses and academic journal articles showed that most of them discuss the history of costumes followed by the material for costumes. In contrast, the master’s theses mostly discuss the material for costumes followed by the history of costumes. As for the Hanbok education system, this study surveyed specialized high schools, universities, and lifelong education institutions and found that 3 specialized high schools, 74 universities, and 123 lifelong education institutions are now conducting Hanbok-related courses. When looking at the current content of education, two–three-year universities and four-year private universities are mostly focusing on the history of costumes, while four-year national and public universities are mostly focusing on composition in costume design. In lifelong education institutions, education is being conducted centering on composition in costume design, sewing craft, and knots.
