This paper classifies and analyzes the types of fabrics used in hanbok(Korean traditional clothing) during the 1960s～and 1970s as featured in the 2023 special exhibition "Donated Hanbok" at Seoul Women's University Museum. Our analysis aims to examine the changes in the purpose and function of hanbok, particularly influenced by the development of the textile industry and the emergence of synthetic fibers during the 1960s and 1970s. The artifacts under study are hanbok worn by the wife of a prominent politician who served as the Speaker of the National Assembly during these two decades, and they represent an important resource for studying the fabrics used in hanbok during this period. While the wearer of these artifacts cannot be considered to represent the entire population, she frequently attended formal events and gatherings, making them significant ex- amples of hanbok's purpose and function. The objective of this research is to examine the changes in the purpose and function of hanbok during 1960s~ and 1970s and analyze the types of materials and patterns used, shedding light on aspects of daily life during this period while categorizing and analyzing the outer fabric materials based on their weave structure, such as plain weave, twill weave, satin weave, and compound weave, and processing methods. Further, the study analyzes the fabric patterns, categorizing them into natural motifs, artificial motifs, and composite motifs based on thematic elements, including flora, fauna, and abstract designs. The advancement of textile dyeing technologies and textile weaving skills has led to a wide variety of colors and pat- terns in hanbok fabrics. The study, therefore, sought to gather research data on hanbok fabrics from the historical artifacts. Future research should involve a more detailed scientific analysis of the components of hanbok fab- rics to better understand the relationship between changes in the textile industry and the culture of hanbok.
