This study examined the Manchu entries in Samhakyeke (三學譯語) of Kokumseklim (古今釋林) with a particular emphasis on the peculiar Manchu word forms. In Manchu scholarly literature, Kokumseklim is frequently mentioned in relation to Hanchengmwunkam (漢淸文鑑), but it has not been investigated as thoroughly. In this study, we compared the Manchu words in Samhakyeke to the original texts, Tongmwunyuhay and Hanchengmwunkam, in order to determine the explanations for the unusual word forms. For this study, we cross-referenced all three manuscripts of Samhakyeke and were able to identify the original or the version that was most similar to the original by analyzing the process by which notation errors occurred and were repeated. As anticipated, Samhakyeke contained no new information about the Manchu language, but it did reveal some interesting error types in transcribing Manchu forms into Hangeul, such as misspellings of Hangeul transcriptions and reassembling of symbols, which reveal an aspect of the Korean language at the time.
