Spot welding, Li-ion battery packs, used in automotive and stationary applications, require a large number of cells to be interconnected. Spot welding is a common technique employed to join the tabs of pouch cells to the bus-bar. However, there is limited research on the joint characteristics regarding electrical resistance and temperature increase during charge-discharge cycles. In this study, a electrical and thermal properties of spot welded joints between 0.3mm nickel tabs and 1.0mm bus bar, using only a thin needles-shaped upper electrode at constant current and voltage and forced air cooling, and two types of battery packs rated capacity of 0.5KW and 1KW were manufactured using a cylindrical cell (Li-ion battery) with a nominal voltage of 3.7 V and a rated current of 5Ah. In order to improve the efficiency of battery quality, welding time and temperature raise were evaluated from the experiment.
