This study explores the application of bionics design in fashion accessory design, focusing on utilizing the forms of coral and other marine organisms as a basis to provide fresh inspiration for contemporary fashion accessory design. The study was conducted based on the theory and knowledge of bionics design. Initially, the bionics expression process of coral elements in fashion accessory design was analyzed using the bionics design model proposed by Janine Benyus. Subsequently, an investigation was carried out on fashion accessory designs by prominent domestic and international designers, who primarily use coral bionics as a theme. Questionnaire surveys and interviews were conducted for data analysis and evaluation of the results. A comprehensive evaluation that focuses on five evaluative criteria and identified a lack of functionality. This indicates a low level of interest in functionality in the current fashion accessory designs centered on coral bionics. Lastly, considering the limitations and design methods of applying bionics design to fashion accessory design and future application trends, new ideas were proposed for researching and developing current fashion accessory design products. This study extends the potential of bionics design, provides direction for new fashion accessory designs, and supplies foundational reference material for future research into fashion accessory bionics design. With the advancement of the era and the development of science and technology, design is gradually changing. Bionics design in fashion accessories should not be limited to imitation at the formative level but requires development in conjunction with various elements such as society, culture, and technology. This presents designers with a new perspective on integrating nature and science into contemporary design. Specifically, marine entities such as corals can function as distinctive inspirations, and employing a bionic approach could delineate novel pathways for the evolution of fashion accessory design. It is anticipated that designers can infuse their creations with deeper significance and value through this approach, potentially guiding future design trends.
