This study tries to identify the representation of dance sport from the language semantics of Saussure, Ferdinand de targeting limited texts about dance sport and to interpret it from the perspective of conveying and circulating symbols.
The body movements of dance sport with non-verbal attributes have basically principles and techniques which each sports event’s history and culture, customs have formed as a visual representation element. In other words, it can be understood in the socio-cultural context. The ultimate message through the physical movements of the couples of males and females can be a kind of language with a different form in terms of a series of acts for communication by each event. The researcher tried to understand that dance sport is the means of expression and delivery between the viewers and the actors and the means of communication between each other.
First, Modern Ballroom Dance is directed beautifully and elegantly as men wear tuxedos and women wear long dresses with the sophisticated image of the couples of males and females. Latin American dance is directed through a lively atmosphere with an open feeling as both men and women wear free costume as a totally different image from that of Modern Ballroom Dance. What is implicit in both dances is an image to excite curiosity to the viewers. In addition, it can be seen that dance sport is represented through images by taking advantage of its own unique characteristics.
