The purpose of this study is to theoretically investigate and empirically verify the impact of exhibition organizer"s competency on exhibition participant"s performance and the moderating effects of exhibition participant"s motivation between exhibition organizer"s competency and exhibition participant"s performance.
For this purpose, I set the hypotheses for the relations among variables: exhibition organizer"s competency, exhibitor"s performance (sales performance, information gathering performance) and exhibitor"s motivation (push motivation, pull motivation). First, the exhibition organizer"s competency positively impacts on the exhibitor"s sales and information gathering performance. Second, the exhibitor"s motivation moderates the relationship between exhibition organizer"s competency and exhibitor"s performance.
The analysis was conducted on 85 exhibitors and the findings are as follows. First, the competency of exhibition organizer has positive effects on the sales and information gathering performance of exhibitors. Second, the push motivation of exhibitor strengthens the positive relationship between competency and sales performance, and the pull motivation of exhibitor strengthens the positive relationship between competency and information gathering performance.We discuss the theoretical and managerial implications.
