The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced the “4th Basic Plan to Promote the Food Industry” to grow the food industry worth 656 trillion won as of 2021 to 1,100 trillion won in 2027 by strengthening the competitiveness of “K-Food". First, added value of the food industry will be enhanced through advanced technologies including food technologies, green bio, etc “Food-Tech Innovation Clusters” will be established by region with a focus on 10 major food technologies. Second, promising export products will be promoted as “K-Brand” to achieve 15 billion dollars of agri-food export by 2027 and a total of 15 “K-gastronomic belts” which are gastronomy tourism products will be introduced. Third, traditional food including Kimchi, traditional liquor, and fermented paste will be boosted. As for Kimchi, Korea will elevate its status as the country of origin by strengthening its quality competitiveness, and traditional liquor and fermented paste will be promoted as noble liquor and sauce, respectively. Fourth, a sustainable cooperation system for co-prosperity between the agricultural and food industries will be established. “Platform for supplying ingredients” which supports contract farming between food companies and farmers will be established. Finally, environmental, social, and governance guidelines for food companies will be devised to respond to changes in the business environment and consulting services will be provided.
